RaxBoard is a self-hosted PHP 8.1 forum platform. It runs on shared hosting, cPanel, Plesk, or any Linux VPS with PHP and MySQL. No Docker, no Node.js sidecar, no Redis required. Drop the files, run the installer, and you have a community in under 10 minutes.
Anything that ran XenForo or vBulletin can run RaxBoard. The only modern requirement is PHP 8.1.
RaxBoard ships as a single zip. The installer detects your environment, creates the database tables, and seeds the default theme.
Self-hosting gives you full control over data, branding, performance, and cost. There are no traffic caps, no per-user pricing, and no surprise migration fees. Your community's posts, members, and attachments live on a server you control — not on someone else's infrastructure that can change terms unilaterally.
Discourse requires Docker + Redis + a 2GB+ VPS. NodeBB requires Node.js and MongoDB or Postgres. Flarum is PHP-based like RaxBoard but ships with fewer native features and a smaller theme system out of the box. RaxBoard is the calmest stack: PHP and MySQL, period.
